Discover the art of ceramics at our Introduction to Ceramics Five Week Evening Course at our studio in Kemptown, Brighton. Learn the basics of pottery on the wheel and hand-building using various techniques. With the guidance of an experienced tutor, you'll also gain an insight into how a kiln works and the art of glazes and glazing the pieces you have created during the course. Take home your masterpieces with a complimentary toolkit and course booklet at the end of the 5-week evening course. Week 1 – The Potters Wheel Discover the stages needed to turn a ball of clay into a perfect pot. Working with your tutor 1-2-1 you will learn the art of centring and “throwing” two pieces of work to your own creative ability and design. You will also begin your own hand-building project to be built on in the coming weeks. Week 2 – More Throwing Practice and Finishing Learn how to “turn” (or finish) your pots created in Week 1. Using the tools provided, expertly create a professional “bottom” to your pots. Create another pot on the wheel and a simple handle to be used in Week 3. Week 3 – Personal Project Progression Finish your hand-building project and learn how to attach handles to your thrown pots. Week 4 – You Decide Work with your tutor to decide what areas you need to work on and what you would like to have achieved from your course. Week 5 – Decorating Techniques This final week will explore using glazes and the glazing process. Learn all about using coloured slips, glazes and scraffitto techniques. At the end of the course, you will take away a course booklet and a complimentary toolkit.
